About Concrete Witness

Documenting brutalism — its civic ambitions, its concrete realities, its unfinished promises.

Why brutalism, now

Brutalism is having a moment on Instagram. That's mostly fine. But the buildings themselves are disappearing — Robin Hood Gardens, Welbeck Street car park, Trinity Square. This journal exists to document what we still have, argue against unnecessary demolition, and remember the civic ambition that built these places.

What we stand for

Civic ambition

Brutalism's failure mode is alienation. Its success mode is the welfare state in built form.

Honest documentation

Wide-angle, natural light, no Photoshop. The buildings on their own terms.

Critical history

Not apologetics, not iconography. Real questions about housing, race, and public space.
